January book: Miracles and Massacres

It has come to my attention that it's suddenly my turn to choose a book for the list. My book for this month is Miracles and Massacres: True and Untold Stories of the Making of America by Glenn Beck.

  2. Ummm, apparently I'm wrong about that. I just talked to Cindy and she IS going to play with us, but she said she'd take her turn after Doug's. Also, I got my hands on an epub of Miracles and Massacres. Uploading to the dropbox momentarily.

  4. Is it obnoxious to make comments about shuttering elephants and calvaries riding to the rescue?

  5. Okay, so I was a little disappointed in Miracles and Massacres. I felt like the writing was a little confusing. I couldn't keep track of people and places and dates. Not a fan of the writing style. The stories I could follow were good stories, and it's nice to hear some of the things that we've never heard before. Maybe I'm just too old to follow things very well. It is interesting to imagine how many more "behind the scenes" stories there probably are out there. I love the history of our nation. But I was glad to be done with this book--now on to Lone Survivor!

  6. I was thoroughly unimpressed with this book. Every story seemed to have had individual details selected to support the thesis (This guy was BAD, These were the GOOD guys), rather than telling the whole story. I think this is why Glenn Beck gets such a bad rap from not just the left, but moderates and even many on the right. He only wants to report the "facts" that support his side of the story, and ignores anything that doesn't conform to his views. There are multiple sides to all arguments, and simply dismissing opponents as liars doesn't help anyone. In my opinion, we need to better understand the other side so we can solve the whole problem, and not just the small piece that one side or another is advocating.
