February Book: Lone Survivor

It appears that there has been a mass of confusion at the start of this year.  The real book for February, as chosen by Cindy, is Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell.

The epub and mobi files are in the dropbox. Audio is on hold, but with the movie coming out, it's popular right now, and may take more than a month to get in.

January book: Miracles and Massacres

It has come to my attention that it's suddenly my turn to choose a book for the list. My book for this month is Miracles and Massacres: True and Untold Stories of the Making of America by Glenn Beck.

November Book: The Reason I Jump

After an initial choice of The Book Thief, Tanya has changed her mind on the book for this month.  It seems she subsequently picked the book up and realized that it was bigger than she was willing to read ;)

So the book for this month, a much shorter work, is The Reason I Jump by Naoki Higashida.  The epub and mobi copies are uploaded to the dropbox folder.  I doubt I'll be able to get the audio before the end of the month, so it looks like fake paper it is!

Also, it looks like, by common consent, December will be a catch-up month, and the next official book will be for January.  Warren is on deck, but should he pass it's Jonathan, then Randi, then Cindy.  I don't know who all is participating, so I'll call you when it gets to your turn.  Be thinking about what you want to choose!

October Book: The Adventures of Dod

The book I've chosen for October is by a local author that published his first book (this one) less than two years ago, and already has over 80,000 readers.  This book is Harry Potteresque, with teenagers as the main characters. Very clean, and a lot of fun, albeit a little long.  It's available for free from this web site:  http://adventuresofdod.com/ebook

I can't add cover art from my iPad, but it has a kid with a sword on the cover.  This may be a little juvenile, but it's a fun read anyway.

The September Book: Off to Be the Wizard

At last, the long-awaited selection from Greg.  Only a month late.

The book is:

Off to Be the Wizard by Scott Meyer.

Yes, it's the Scott Meyer from Sunnyside, Washington; the Scott Meyer who writes the online cartoon known as Basic Instructions.

I've read this book, and yes, it's quite nerdy. It's also a lot of fun, completely clean (he doesn't even swear), and bizarrely unexpected. Don't read it too quickly, there's a lot of subtle humor that you don't want to miss. I'll admit, some of the humor went over my head. That's okay, even if you don't catch every joke, it's still a fun story.

It's in the Dropbox now in epub and mobi formats (remember, mobi is for kindles, epub should work for basically everything else). Unfortunately, there is no audio edition, so no listening this time around. However, it's not all that long, so it shouldn't cause too much grief.

The August Book: The Westing Game

Due to delay in access to Greg's book choice, Ilene and Greg have traded months.  This month's book, then, chosen by Ilene, is The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.  It's a mystery and there's something about the reading of a Will.  Sounds intriguing!  And, it's a Newbery Award Winner!

Hi Everyone.  The book I choose for July is one Vonnie recommended to me.  She said it is really good and she can't imagine  that anyone wouldn't like it, so we'll give it a try.  It's called Fearless by Eric Blehm.
